Exercising for just 10 minutes a week is linked to a longer life, according to a new study published in The British Journal of Sports Medicine.
Several recent studies have found that even low-intensity exercise, done for a short amount of time, can have a meaningful ___26___ on health. Still, the idea that exercising for just 10 minutes a week may be enough to increase your lifespan is novel. It's also somewhat ___27___, since the federal physical activity guidelines recommend getting at least 75 minutes of vigorous exercise or 150 minutes of ___28___ exercise each week.
The study was based on data from more than 88,000 U.S. adults who ___29___ in the National Health interview survey between 1997 and 2008.
Contrary to some research that has found an ___30___ limit to the amount of exercise that is healthy, the researchers found that there was ___31___ no limit to the longevity (长寿) benefits of exercise. Even the small group of people who got 10 times the amount of exercise recommended by the federal government had a
46% lower ___32___ of death than the least active group.
Still, observational studies like this one cannot prove cause and effect; they can only find ___33___. The researchers also were not able to ___34___ for certain lifestyle factors that could affect lifespan, including dietary habits and changes in physical activity over time. despite these ___35___, the study's results are yet another indication of the power of physical activity, even in small amounts.
A) adjust
B) alter
C) approximately
D) controversial
E) coordinates
F) impact
G) limitations
H) moderate
I) participated
J) patterns
K) populated
L) risk
M) seemingly
N) type
O) upper
答案解析:
26. F根据前文“even low-intensity exercise...can have a meaningful ______ on health”,可知这里需要一个名词,表示低强度运动对健康所能产生的“影响”或“作用”,所以选 impact。
27. D根据后文“since the federal physical activity guidelines recommend...”,可知每周只运动10分钟就能延长寿命的观点与官方指南的建议出入很大,因此这个观点是“有争议的”,所以选 controversial。
28. H根据前文“75 minutes of vigorous exercise or 150 minutes of ______ exercise”,可知这里是与“高强度”相对的另一种运动类型,即“中等强度的”运动,所以选 moderate。
29. I根据“data from more than 88,000 U.S. adults who ______ in the National Health Interview Survey”,可知这里需要一个动词,表示这些成年人“参加”了这项调查,所以选 participated。
30. O根据前文“Contrary to some research that has found an ______ limit to the amount of exercise that is healthy”,可知这里指的是一些研究发现了运动量的一个“上限”,超过这个上限可能对健康无益,所以选 upper。
31. M根据后文“no limit to the longevity benefits of exercise”,可知研究发现运动对长寿的好处“似乎”没有上限,所以选 seemingly。
32. L根据“had a 46% lower ______ of death than the least active group”,可知这里需要一个名词,与“death”搭配,表示“死亡风险”,所以选 risk。
33. J根据前文“observational studies...cannot prove cause and effect; they can only find ______”,可知观察性研究不能证明因果关系,只能发现事物之间的“关联模式”或“规律”,所以选 patterns。
34. A据后文“for certain lifestyle factors that could affect lifespan”,可知研究人员无法根据某些可能影响寿命的生活因素进行“调整”或“控制”,所以选 adjust。
35. G根据前文“Despite these ______”,可知这里是在总结上文提到的该研究的不足之处(如不能证明因果、无法控制所有变量),即研究的“局限性”,所以选 limitations。
